Originally from Canada, Dr. Austring attended Vanguard University where he graduated in 1982 with a B.A. in Science. As missionaries with the Assemblies of God, he and his wife lived in Guatemala for eight years working with Latin American ChildCare, a ministry that helped to establish schools, feeding programs and medical attention through local churches in impoverished areas of that country. He also pastored in Canada before returning to Vanguard University where he has been teaching for the last 11 years. He earned his doctorate in Intercultural Education and his dissertation examines the role of adult learning theory in understanding the cross-cultural adaptation of people moving from one culture to another.
At Vanguard, Dr. Austring teaches courses in Intercultural Studies and Religion in the traditional undergraduate program and courses on Diversity, Ethics and Philosophy to Business and Nursing students in the School for Professional Studies. He is also the Chair General Education program of that School. He received the 2010-2011 Faculty of the Year Award from the undergraduate students of Vanguard University.
